Our History

On 2nd October 1973, a day when the nation commemorates Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti, a visionary initiative took shape with the establishment of Bharati Madhyavarti Sahakari Grahak Bhandar Ltd. Founded by Dr. Patangrao Kadam, the selection of this date carried deep symbolic significance, reflecting Gandhian ideals of truth, simplicity, self-reliance, and service to society. The organization was built with a clear mission: to make essential goods accessible to ordinary citizens at reasonable and affordable prices.

In 1974, Bharati Bazar inaugurated its first departmental store on L.B. Shastri Road in Pune. What began as a modest retail outlet quickly earned the trust and loyalty of customers through its unwavering commitment to honesty, quality, and courteous service. Over time, the store expanded its offerings to include bakery products and a comprehensive range of daily necessities, steadily becoming a dependable name for households across Pune district.

The journey, however, was not without challenges. During the late 1970s and 1980s, shifting economic policies led to financial difficulties. Despite these obstacles, Bharati Bazar remained resilient, guided by strong leadership and steadfast values. A significant turning point came in 1988, when new leadership assumed responsibility during a critical phase, steering the organization toward renewed stability and growth.

By the early 1990s, Bharati Bazar had returned to profitability and embarked on a phase of expansion, opening new branches in Pune, Sangli, and Kadegaon. As the years progressed, the organization embraced modernization and innovation, introducing customer-centric initiatives such as the Akshay Deposit Yojana and home delivery services, enhancing convenience and strengthening its bond with the community.

A proud milestone was achieved in 2012, when Bharati Bazar became entirely debt-free to a testament to its disciplined growth, sound management, and unwavering commitment to its founding principles.

Today, Bharati Bazar stands as a trusted and respected name in the FMCG sector. It offers a diverse range of products including groceries, organic goods, hosiery, and general merchandise, supported by efficient home delivery and modern retail practices.
